Forest guards fire at fishermen

Gohpur, May 4: An awful situation occurred at Diparaghat, which is situated on the bank of the Brahmaputra under Gohpur subdivision. The poor fishermen of nearby villages of Diparaghat have been fishing from many years in the Brahmaputra for livelihood. As per statement of the fishermen, on Wednesday they went to Diparaghat for fishing as usual. After few minutes, fishermen heard the sounds of gunshot from 6th addition of Kaziranga tiol Park. Chasing the fishermen, forest guards of Agaratali range of Kaziranga tiol Park started firing at them, suspecting them to be poachers. The fishermen fled in various directions from the spot. People have strongly condemned the ‘irresponsible’ act of the forest department.
