GAON (HAIBORGAON), August 9:  Due to the recent floods, the wild animals of Kaziranga tiol Park (KNP) had taken shelter in the hilly areas of nearby gaon- Karbi-Anglong border area. But now since the flood situation has improved and the water has receded, the wild animals are slowly returning to the park.

Forest officials and guards are on high alert in the whole area of KNP so that the poaching of the wild animals can be prevented. According to sources, even for the safe crossing of the wild animals, gaon district transport officials and other staff were deployed on tiol Highway in two district border areas like Amguri in gaon and in Haldibari in Golaghat district border over the last 20 days to control the speed limit in the park.

The district transport officer himself was working day and night for the safety of the wild animals of the Park. “From our side we left no stone unturned for protection of the wild animals of the park, especially in gaon district portion. Not only had the staff, but I too worked day and night for more than 20 days,” DTO R Pujari said.

He further stated that district transport staff and officers would continue their duty in Kaziranga tiol Park for 10 more days for the safety of the wild animals. Interestingly, on Monday the forest guards recovered carcasses of two rhinos from the park.
