Former Bangladesh Minister to be tried under Foreigners Act

SHILLONG, July 22: Former Bangladesh Minister and Bangladesh tiolist Party (BNP) leader Salahuddin Ahmed has been charged by the District and Session Judge, on Wednesday.

Salahuddin who is currently on bail after his arrest in Shillong was charged under section 14 of the Foreigners Act. The charge was framed and submitted before the Court of First Class Judicial magistrate KML Nongbri.

Disclosing the outcome of the hearing on Wednesday, the public prosecutor IC Jha said that the accused did not plead guilty and he wanted to be tried by the Court. Based on the charges, the Court will hear the evidences for prosecution on July 30.

There are 11 witnesses who are expected to depose for evidences and they include the police and doctors serving in the State government hospital.

Notwithstanding the outcome of the Court verdict, his appearance in Shillong is still a mystery. The Bangladeshi political leader reiterated that he was kidpped by unknown people in Bangladesh on March 10 and was dumped in Shillong before he was arrested by the Police on May 11 last. Out on conditiol bail since June 5, Salahuddin Ahmed is residing in Laban area and has been instructed to appear before the Court every week.
