Former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi wishes for restructuring of Indian National Congress in India

Guwahati: With the defeat in the general elections to the Lok Sabha 2019, Former Chief Minister of Assam Tarun Gogoi wishes for a restructuring of the Congress party in the entire country.

Addressing a press conference at Minister’s Colony in Guwahati on Monday, Former Chief Minister mentioned that the party has accepted the mandate of the people. However, Gogoi claims that the Bharatiya Janata Party had played divisive propaganda to win this 2019 general election.

“Narendra Modi can escape easily bringing out emotional factors; He took the platform on nationalism which in Modi's rule is known as Hindutwavadi,” said Gogoi.

He also questioned Narendra Modi saying, “If he really believes in the Constitution of India, then how can he bring Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016?”

The former Chief Minister of Assam also alleged that the BJP National President Amit Shah and others are creating a threat among the people on the basis of religion. Gogoi questioned further saying “how many minority leaders won the general election this year?”

Sense of insecurity has made the BJP do such propaganda, Gogoi lamented.

Praising Congress candidate from Guwahati Lok Sabha Constituency Bobbeeta Sharma, former CM of the state said that Bobbeeta was a better candidate then Queen Oja. “BJP MPs like Queen Oja will be a Nimati Koinas (docile brides) in Parliament,” taunts Gogoi.

“Fighting against religious sentiment is not easy. The Congress party had delivered whatever the party has planned. So we remained interim for three years,” Gogoi added.

Highlighting the key issues of Assam, Gogoi stated that the Flood and Erosion have been neglected in the centre and the money is yet to be given.

The former Chief Minister of Assam also critiqued the Prime Minister-elect for the BJP party alleged anti-Mahatma Gandhi stance as some leaders, including Bhopal’s newly elected MP Pragya Thakur, have claimed that Nathuram Godse was a “patriot” for assassinating the Mahatma. “He offered garlands to others on the dice but not to MK Gandhi”, Gogoi alleged.

“What do we want Nehru’s scientific country or Modi’s superstitious country?” Gogoi questioned further.
