Former Minister Kosheswar Borah cremated

BISWATH CHARIALI, Jan 21: Former Assam Health Minister Kosheswar Borah was cremated here today in the presence of a huge gathering. Borah had died at his residence on Wednesday evening at the age of 84.

The funeral procession of Borah began from his residence in Kalyanpur and culmited at a crematorium here. Borah’s last rite was performed in the presence of prominent citizens, politicians, student leaders and well-wishers.

Born in 1931 at Khorasimolu village in Biswath Chariali, Borah contested Assembly polls in 1972 from Biswath constituency as an independent candidate and won the poll securing a huge number of votes. In 1978, Borah won Assembly polls from Biswath constituency as a candidate of Jata Dal and became Health and Excise Minister.

A very popular leader, Borah was actively associated with various organizations including Biswath College, Lions Club, Red Cross Society, Biswa Commerce College in Biswath Chariali. He leaves behind his wife, two sons, a daughter and a host of relatives and well-wishers.

The death of Borah has been widely mourned. A large number of mourners including family friends, prominent citizens, businessmen, social workers besides relations visited the bereaved family to extend condolences to the bereaved family.
