Former NSUI leader attacked in Teok

FROM A CORRESPONDENT

JORHAT, June 3: Sensation prevailed here after a former general secretary of the NSUI was attacked by a group of 15 miscreants at Koliapani under Teok police station today.

The miscreants threatened to set former NSUI Jitu Hazarika on fire besides pouring foreign liquor over his body.

Talking to The Sentinel, Hazarika said, “I had just reached from Duliajan after my business partners dropped me near the highway. It was around 10 PM. It was near the intersection that Chiku Bhattacharjee who is the owner of the illegal timber mill and his goons appeared with a Bolero vehicle AS-03, M-9478 and first hit me and displayed small arms and then poured foreign liquor on my body. They were threatening to put me on fire but when I shouted for help, they escaped”.

“Chiku the mastermind is known to me. He also owns a shop at Hachora. Only a few months back he asked me for some money to invest in a saw mill. But I rejected the idea as I am against this kind of illegal business. But afterwards he along with some non-Assamese businessman established the illegal saw mill and my continuous opposition might have triggered his anger” he said.

Hazarika has filed an FIR at Teok police station in connection with the case.
