Donkamokam, Apri 24: Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council CEM Tuliram Ronghang this morning laid the foundation stone of the Veteriry and Animal Husbandry sub center at Chongkan, a remote Karbi village in west Karbi Anglong. He was accompanied by executive member (in charge Veteriry) Prodip Diphusa and chairman of Veteriry Board Ditolal Hasnu.

In his speech, Ronghang thanked the Veteriry department for sanctioning the centre at this remote village. “History says that rearing of pigs, chicken, ducks, goats etc were a tradition of our forefathers. We need to keep those traditions alive but through application of scientific methods and by maintaining a healthy environment,” the CEM said.

“The educated youths of the district also need to take interest these vocations,” he felt.

The new sub centre, Ronghang said, will help the local youth to learn modern methods of poultry rearing which in turn will boost production and income.

Besides, training would also be provided by the centre for village people, the CEM said.

He further assured of providing free poultry to SHGs soon.

He also said a boundary wall and staff quarters would be constructed at the centre to protect it from encroachers. Executive member Prodip Diphusa vowed to make full use of the barren land.

“We need to utilize the barren lands for production. Unless it is done, economic development will be a far cry for village folks,” he said.
