Foundation stone laid at Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi Regional Institute of Mental Health,Tezpur

Tezpur, July 10: Keeping with the pace of information technology and in line with the promotion of Digital India Initiative, Government of India, the foundation stone for a new modern Central Library and Informatics Centre at Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi Regional Institute of Mental Health (LGBRIMH) was laid on Tuesday by R P Sharma, MP of Sonitpur, in the presence of Additional Deputy Commissioner, Sonitpur, Kulen Sharma, Dr. S K Deuri, Director, LGBRIMH, Dr. Sonia Perera Deuri, Dr. Bijoy Gogoi along with other dignitaries from various institutions and colleges.

Projected to be one of its kinds in the NE region, the centre will have facilities for teleconferencing, telemedicine and telecommunication. The estimated cost of the project is around Rs 23.43 crore and will be completed within a period of two years from the date of commencement. A 100-bedded Neurology and Neurosurgery Block, Sports and Recreational Facility will also be coming up in LGBRIMH in phases for the all-round development of the institute.

RP Sharma highlighted in his speech the importance of mental health and the need for a specialized centre in the NE region. He described the beauty of the nature and its role in mental and psychological health. He further added about how humankind had distanced itself from nature and had invited a multitude of physical and mental illness for himself. Kulen Sharma praised the efforts of the institute to grow into a centre of excellence in the north-eastern region.
