Foundation stone of river protection project laid in Jorhat

JORHAT, Feb 18: Assembly Speaker and Jorhat MLA Hitendra th Goswami laid the foundation stone of a river protection dyke at Dinigaon located on the outskirts of Jorhat town on Saturday.   Goswami, who was accompanied by Jorhat MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, laid the foundation stone of the project titled ‘Immediate measures to restore Dini Gaon area from the diversion of river Brahmaputra under SDRF scheme 2016-17’. The scheme was estimated at the cost of Rs. 6.44 lakh.   Laying the foundation stone of the project speaker, Goswami said, “We are now moving towards development and the government has taken up several projects for the development of the State. Today I laid the foundation stone of this river protection project which is most important for the protection of Jorhat from the massive erosion of Brahmaputra River.”  He added, “We want the works to be completed within the specific period and accordingly we have directed the department officials concerned to complete this project within March 30 this year.”
