Four arrested for selling illegal liquor

JOYSAGAR, June 5: The Sivasagar subdivisional excise office conducted an operation with the help of Joysagar Police on Sunday night in and around Joysagar, Kalugaon, Salaguri, Bhatiapara and Magarahat area and arrested four illegal liquor sellers along with 10,000 litres of country liquor and six boxes of CMFLs.

The persons arrested have been identified as Hem Chetia, Pankaj Chetia, Rana Gogoi and Akoni Lahon of Magarahat area. These arrested persons were allegedly running many dens of illegal liquor and also gambling and other anti-social activities in this area for a long time. Later, excise department officers destroyed the seized liquor in presence of District Executive Magistrate PJ Sarmah, sources informed. Besides, four different cases were also registered against the accused persons in the Joysagar Police Station.
