Four car lifters bbed in Dibrugarh

DIBRUGARH, Nov 12: The Dibrugarh Police busted a car-lifting racket and arrested four dreaded inter-State car lifters on Wednesday.

 The police team headed by T.S.I, Prasanta Bora, arrested the car lifters when they tried to escape with the stolen car from Khalihamari. The arrested car lifters have been identified as Mohammed Hussain Ali (Mangaldoi), Mohammed siruddin Ali (Udalguri),Pranjal Dutta (Lakhimpur), Sahidul Islam (Dalgaon). According to sources, all the arrested car thieves and their associates had taken a house on rent at Grahambazar from where they used to operate in the district. The police have started searching in both Jorhat and Sivasagar districts to arrest the kingpin of the racket.

During interrogation, the arrested car thieves had confessed that they had stolen luxurious cars from Upper Assam and later sold them in galand. The inter-State car thieves confessed before the police that they had stolen at least 50 cars from Upper Assam and later sold  all of them in galand. The police have renewed their massive hunt to arrest the gang leader of the seven-member gang.

Meanwhile, police sources have revealed that the dreaded car thief Mohammed Hussain Ali alias Tilingai was also involved in the number of robbery cases that were carried out in the town and its adjoining areas, for the past couple of months. According to police, the recent incident of robbery which was carried out at Ajanta Jewellers, was accomplished by Hussain along with his group.  Police said, jewellery worth lakhs of rupees which was recovered from Hussain, are a part of the stolen gold orments that were looted by him from different jewellery stores of the town.
