Four coal-laden trucks seized

DIMORIA, Feb 21: Four illegal coal-laden trucks bearing registration nos-ML-05-F-4728, AS-01-CC-0020, ML-04-B-1143 and AS-01 DD-2237 were seized by the police at Borkhat under Sopur police station on the city outskirts today. Police sources said that the four coal-laden trucks were on the way to Beltola in the city from Byrnihat in Meghalaya via 14-Mile. Police said the four trucks took the 14-Mile route to avoid the checkpost at 13-Mile.

Sources said that a section of unscrupulous coal traders have been regulating transporting coals by trucks thorough this route for evading tax.  Police said that the driver of the sized trucks could not produce any documents for carrying coal.

Police further said that the four seized trucks carried coal more than the permissible limit. Sources further added that a section of unscrupulous people help the trucks in crossing the checkpost evading taxes. Police have handed over the seized trucks to the Transport Department.
