Four-laning process of NH-15 reviewed

Biswanath Chariali, June 22: The ongoing four-laning process of NH-15 on the north bank of the Brahmaputra river was reviewed on Tuesday at a high-level meeting held in the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Biswanath. The alleged irregularities and slow pace of work carried out by the construction firm TK Engineering and Consortium Limited have led to public woes in the districts of Biswanath and Sonitpur. The meeting was attended by Biswanath and Sonitpur Deputy Commissioners, Dhiraj Jyoti Kalita and Manoj Kumar Deka respectively, Biswanath and Sonitpur Additional Deputy Commissioners Parijat Bhuyan and Nabajyoti Ojah respectively, Gohpur Subdivisional Officer (Civil) and Additional Deputy Commissioner Dr Indranasee Das, the Revenue Circle Officers of both of the districts and the higher officials of National Highway Development Corporation Limited (NHDCL).

In the meeting it was reiterated that no irregularities and corruption would be tolerated in the process of construction of the NH 15, which is assumed to be the backbone of North Assam. The meeting instructed the construction firm to follow the norms strictly and also to ensure the safety measures while carrying out the construction work. The Deputy Commissioners also instructed the officials of the revenue department to ensure the early release of the compensation to the affected people who lost their lands, valuable trees and other properties for the four-laning of the NH-15.
