Four Mylliem villages get Nirmal Gram award

SHILLONG, May 8: It was a proud moment for the Mylliem C&RD Block after the central government awarded it with the Nirmal Gram Puraskar (NGP) Award for having four villages under it with an open defecation-free environment.
Speaking at an event organised on the occasion, MLA RV Lyngdoh expressed his happiness that the four villages didn’t just get the recognition from the Block Development Officer (BDO) office, Deputy Commissioner (DC) office or the state government but the recognition came right from the central government.
The MLA lauded the Block and the hard work done by the BDO and the residents of the four villages in achieving such an award.
The villages recognized by the central government included Madan Lingsyiem which also bagged Rs. 3 lakhs while Syllai-u-Lor, Demthring and Mawsawa village bagged Rs. 1.50 lakhs each.
The award was presented in a grand function on Saturday at Madan Iingsyiem, Mylliem in the presence of Block Development Officer (BDO) of Mylliem PT Passah, Deputy Commissioner (DC) East Khasi Hills PS Dkhar, NP Gupta, SE (PHE) department,RV Lyngdoh, Chief Whip of the state government officers of various government departments, Headmen and MB Kharlukhi Myntri of Hima Mylliem.
