Four timber smugglers bbed

DIGBOI, Jan 20: Pengaree Police today arrested four timber smugglers and seized a timber-laden vehicle from Tarani Reserve Forest under Domdooma Division in Tinsukia district.

Police sources said acting on a tip off police launched operation and arrested four timber smugglers one of whom identified as Bijoy Moran of Torani area in Pengaree at Bokapather under Bordumsa Police station in Tinsukia District.

Police based on his confession revealed that the illegally procured timber resources were being carried to the residence of a local businessman-turned politician at Bordumsa in Changlang district of Aruchal Pradesh.

Police said that the entire network of the smugglers destroying the forest resources in collusions with the forest officials will be brought to light soon.  

“Many high profile mes are expected to be surfaced soon,” added a source.

The ture’s lovers of Pengaree-Bordumsa area alleged that due to indifferent attitude and gross negligence of the forest department including the concerned Rangers, the acts of felling trees were carried out almost every day by the miscreants in the area along the Assam- Aruchal border.

However, the police interrogation and close investigation were being carried out till the filling of this report. The arrested culprits would be produced before the court on Thursday morning.
