Boko, April 22: Availability of clean cooking fuel is a major challenge for rural poor households in the country. Lack of access to clean fuel is adversely affecting the health of women and children in the households using unclear fuel. The PMUY scheme is in operation and as part of the scheme, 44 villages of Kamrup district will be converted to smokeless villages by May 4. On Friday, Nandini Gas Agency celebrated Ujjala Divas, as a part of the Gram Swaraj Abhijan, at Boko puja mandap, where apart from experience sharing aimed at safe and sustained usage of LPG, all-out efforts were also made to maximize customer enrolment.  Dr. B Khakhlary, DGM, Senior Medical Officer, Guwahati Refinery, attended as observer. Boko MLA Nandita Das expressed happiness that out of the 44 villages to be converted to smokeless villages, there were 12 reserved forest villages also. On the occasion, all total 100 free gas connections were distributed among beneficiaries after demonstrating safety and operation procedure.
