GUWAHATI, July 26: A cultural programme to be organized by Friends of Tribal Society at the Pragjyoti Cultural Centre at Machkhowa on July 28 will be inaugurated by Assam Governor Jagadish Mukhi and will also be graced by the First Lady of the State, a press release stated. The artistes to perform at the programme arc from the tribal belt on a pan-India basis.

Significantly, in 2017 the cultural team performed in 52 places in the United States while drawing applause for its performance. The same team is set to visit Canada in January 2019 for stage performance. The Friends of Tribal Society launched its initiative at Dhanbad in Jharkhand 29 years ago with a view to bringing together the tribal population.

Presently the activities of the Society are spread over seventy thousand villages in the country, while targeting to reach out to more than one lakh villages by 2020. In the North-cast, the Friends of Tribal Society, Guwahati chapter is running educational institutions in 5500 tribal villages and tea gardens in Assam, Tripura, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh.
