SHILLONG, April 2: Family Strengthening Programme (FSP), a programme of SOS Children’s Villages of India, Shillong is a preventive community intervention programme designed to prevent children from losing parental care.

The programme runs in rural areas within a 40 km radius of SOS Children’s Village, focused on children and women. Spanning 3 to 5 years, the programme aims to eble families to move out of the vicious cycle of poverty towards greater dignity and self-reliance.

The programme aims to provide an ebling environment to 439 number of vulnerable children of  Mynsain, Pynthor, Umktieh villages under Umroi Block and Mawlyndep village under Umsning block of Ribhoi district, to fulfill their rights through socio-economic empowerment and capacity building of their families and providing the families with increased options of livelihood enhancement, so that the additiol economic benefit derived out of it, could be utilized for meeting the developmental needs of their children.

In collaboration with the Dorbar Shnong, Mynsain, a programme for iuguration of the FSP Community Office was held on the March 31 with George B Lyngdoh, MLA, Umroi as the Chief Guest for the occasion. The programme presented by SHG members and Child Parliament members made the iugural programme colorful.

The FSP Community Centre will serve as a multi-utility centre for various purposes for SHG and Children Parliament meetings. The Community Centre will be accessible to the community.

An awareness programme for the youths from the community was organized in collaboration with Dorbar Shnong, Mynsain and NIAM Educatiol Foundation PIA of DDU-GKY after the iugural programme.
