Furore over attack on physically challenged person in TMCH

TEZPUR, Feb 18:  Sensation prevailed in and around Tezpur Medical College and Hospital (TMCH) campus over the alleged torture perpetrated upon a physically challenged person by the security guards engaged in the hospital complex.

In an FIR lodged in the TMCH campus police outpost against the accused security guard, the Chief Secretary of North Assam Handicapped Association, Utpal Bhuyan alleged that on February 16 evening, a physically challenged person Abdul Jabbar of Keherukhunda area

under Dhekiajuli Police station admitted his wife at TMCH for delivery. At night Abdul Jabbar went out for buying medicines when he was stopped by the security guards at the entrance gate. The security guards allegedly first asked money from him and when he refused to give any money, they started beating him and took away all the money that he had with him.

 “The security guards even threatened the victim to kill him if he informed the matter to others,” stated the FIR. It was demanded that the police and the TMCH authority should  identify the accused without any delay and give exemplary punishment or they would stage protest in the hospital campus.
