Furore over murder of Boluram Sawansi

Dibrugarh, June 28:  In protest against the murder of  Boluram Sawansi, on June 25,  a resident of   Greenwood Tea Estate, who had raised his voice against the people involved in illegal timber business ,  the  Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha and the Assam Tea  Tribes Student Union,  including  tea garden workers, from Maijan and Greenwood staged a blockade on NH - 37  near Chaulkhowa , on Monday.

Compensation to the next  of kin of Boluram , breaking down of the illegal sawmills in Rohmoria area , arrest of all the persons who have been dishonestly running the illegal saw mills including stringent punishment for the government officials , were the demands placed by the organizations. Moreover, to protest against the killing , the tea estates also observed a bandh.

Tea garden workers had beaten up the driver and the two handymen, who had dragged away the body of Boluram Sawansi, who was tied to the illegal timber loaded truck. The angry mob of tea workers, after chasing the truck, had burnt the truck. Later, the driver Biraj Dutta’s body was recovered from a beel where he had jumped off to escape the wrath of the angry mob of tea workers. The two handymen were beaten up.

Meanwhile , Amit Saikia, owner of the DI truck and his brother, have been arrested by the police while the condition of both the handymen, Jitu Baruah and Kaliram Gogoi, who are undergoing treatment at AMCH, is stated to be critical.
