G20 summit: Trump, Xi Jinping hopeful of improved economic ties after phone call

Guwahati: US President Donald Trump on Thursday, expressed satisfaction over his telephonic talks with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping on the the trade conflict between both the countries. He also said that meetings were being planned at the G20 summit scheduled to be held at the end of this month.

Sharing the latest developments over twitter, Trump wrote " Just had a long and very good conversation with President Xi Jinping of China. we talked about many subjects, with a heavy emphasis on trade"

Trump further said that trade talks were "moving along nicely" and that meetings were being scheduled at the G20 summit in Buenos Arires.

On the otherhand, Chinese President Xi Jinping said he was "very happy" to talk to Trump again and the talks holds great importance in maintaining good relations between both the countries. He also said that he would like to meet his US counterpart at the G20 summit.

Stating that China is keen on improving relations with the US as trade disagreement between both the countries have adversely affected the industries from both the countries as well as well as global trade.

Xi further quoted that " The economic teams of the two countries should strengthen contact, conduct consultations on issues of mutual concern, and push for a mutually acceptable solution to China-US economic trade issues"

Noteworthy that both Washington and Beijing are in involved in an increasingly high-stakes standoff over Trumps aggressive decision to end trade ties with China, as he considers China has been involved in unfair trade practices over the years including theft of intellectual property, forced technology transfers, and market access barriers

The tussle between the two countries this summer saw Trump imposed new tariffs on roughly half of the Chinese imports while The Chinese government retaliated Trump's move with tariffs on most US products.

Expressing his views on the telephonic conversation with Trump, Xi said, that the situation on the Korean peninsula has "undergone positive changes"

With the latest development between the two economic giants, Xi further said that "it can be hoped that both the United States and North Korea will take care of the issues concerning both the countries and further advance the denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula"

The13th edition of the G20 summit will be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina. It will be the first-ever G20 summit to be hosted in South America. During the buildup to the G20 Summit between world leaders on 30 November 2018, Argentina will host over 45 meetings at various government levels and areas in 11 different cities throughout the country.
