Gamlin calls for a green and clean Capital

ITAGAR, May 25: We need to work collectively to make our Capital city a green and clean and liveable place, said chief secretary Shakuntala D Gamlin while addressing a coordition meeting on state’s perspective plan and hydro-power development here on Tuesday. Sharing her vision on the identified viable key sectors viz. tourism, agriculture-horticulture and its allied sectors, health, education, skill development etc. she informed that emphasis has been given on all of them under the perspective plan, an official report informed. “Our efforts towards skill development should be in tune with the roadmap for economic development of the state. Skilled pool of manpower would be needed to meet up the demands of health, education and infrastructure sectors,” said Gamlin calling for working proactively towards promoting economic activities and creating ebling environment for creating gainful employment. “We also have to work towards self-sustaining, composite, comprehensive and self-reliant kind of development,” she emphasized.

On the focus on creating ebling infrastructure, in terms of road, rail, air and telecom connectivity, she underlined that proper infrastructure is a pre-requisite for the development of state in various sector.

Giving her opinion on the initial appraisal of health indicators like materl health, child health, immunization etc. the chief secretary said that the state needs to boost the coverage of neo-tal care, arrest infant mortality and provide neo-tal check up. She further called for proper data collection and mapping of health centres which gives a proper projection of the requirements. “We must bridge the gap in health sector and push for reforms,” she stressed adding that district hospitals need to be upgraded and trauma centres and ICU care are required for attending to critical patients. Underling the inter-linkage of various sectors for development of the state, she added that good health care facility is also necessary for the visiting tourists.

On the occasion, calling for promoting state capital as planned city, Gamlin stressed that a collective work is required to make the Capital a green, clean and livable place with urban amenities for the people and also to boost tourism. She further called upon the DC, UD and tourism departments to work as collaboratively towards this goal, taking along various stakeholders like welfare societies and markets welfare committees hand in hand. Also, on implementation of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, she called upon everyone to make it people’s campaign and explore various options to make it successful while on hydro-power development, the chief secretary called for appraisal of the projects adding that harnessing the potential would boost the growth of revenue deficit. Earlier, Secretary Planning, Dr. Joram Beda through a power point presentation, gave a broad overview of the perspective plan and also highlighted various development indicators and the challenges which are being faced. Taking opportunity, he asked all the concerned departments to prepare their respective plans based on realistic, achievable and an outcome based graph. Led by Niti Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant, an inter-ministerial team will visit the state in May 31 next, where the perspective plan of the state would be taken up, the report added.
