gaon jail inmate dies at GMCH, family cries foul

GAON (HAIBORGAON), April 22: A prisoner of gaon special jail who was imprisoned for 15 years in a murder case at khuti area under Lanka police station, died under mysterious circumstances on Friday morning in GMCH while he was undergoing treatment after sustaining severe head injuries in an alleged attack by one of his fellow inmates of the jail.

Sources said the deceased prisoner has been identified as Manik Ali of khuti area under Lanka police station. Sources added that Manik Ali and his fellow prisoner some Faruk Ahmed allegedly indulged in a reciprocal attack to each other in which both of them sustained severe injuries and the jail authority soon after the incident admitted both of them to gaon SBP Civil Hospital on April 20. But the doctors of the hospital referred Manik Ali to GMCH and on Friday morning, Manik Ali succumbed to his injuries. On the other hand, the family of deceased prisoner Manik Ali on Friday alleged that the jail authorities had not intimated anything about the injuries of Ali, the jail authorities contacted them on Friday only after his death. The family of Ali lodged an FIR in gaon Sadar police station alleging negligence of the jail authority for his death and demanded a probe into the whole incident.
