Gauhati Medical College And Hospital (GMCH) Wins Accolades For Implementation of Health Schemes

GUWAHATI: The Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) has won accolades for effectively implementing the Centre’s ambitious Ayushman Bharat scheme in the State.

A flagship programme of the Narendra Modi government, the Ayushman Bharat Yojana or Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) started in 2018. Under this scheme, the government provides health insurance cover of up to Rs 5 lakh per family per year for treatment of critical ailments.

Praising the GMCH for its commendable job in executing the Ayushman Bharat scheme, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Health Authority (NHA), Indu Bhushan on Wednesday dashed off a letter to GMCH Superintendent Ramen Talukdar hoping that it will keep up similar efforts in future.

The GMCH is among the top healthcare institutions in terms of treatment amounting to more than Rs 10 crore with more than 6,000 pre-authorization under the Ayushman Bharat Yojana, the letter said. When an insurer agrees to accept claims in advance that stage is called pre-authorization.

Under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, most of the treatments has been for tertiary care, like orthopaedics, neuro-surgery, urology and cardiology. The Assam Government has set a target to cover 27 lakh families comprising 1.4 crore residents under the scheme.

State Health and Family Welfare Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has tweeted that he is elated to know that the GMCH has done exceptionally well in executing visionary programme of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “An appreciation from CEO, NHA Dr Indu Bhushan bolsters morale of the hospital team,” Sarma tweeted.

GMCH superintendent Talukdar attributed the credit of winning such recognition to all staff of the hospital. “We will try to increase the number of beneficiaries of the scheme. This recognition will definitely improve the working pattern of the people involved in implementing the scheme and services to the beneficiaries,” Talukdar said.
