Gaurisagar businessman passes away

GAURISAGAR, Feb 25:  Noted social worker, prominent businessman, proprietor of M/S BR Bora Petrol Pump, litterateur ,life member of Axam Xahitya Xabha (AXX), former president of Gaurisagar Sakha Xahitya Xabha  and a resident of Gaurisagar Tiniali, Baloram Bora passed away on Friday night due to heart failure. He was 70.

 When news of his demise spread, people from various walks of life rushed to his residence to pay homage. Born on March 1 in 1947, Bora did his schooling from mdang LP School and Gaurisagar Higher Secondary Industrial Institute. Later, he took admission in Sibsagar College and completed his BA degree. He did his master’s degree in Economics from Gauhati University. He then served as lecturer in Swahid Peoli Phukan College, mti and Sibsagar Commerce College. In 1971 he started a kerosene depot at Gaurisagar. By dint of his hard labour, he succeeded in his business and became a prominent businessman of the district.

 Due to his good magement, he was able to expand his business. He got 15 awards from Indian and Assam Oil division. He also wrote five books- Nibanua Samachya Samadhar Muldhan, Byabachayar Auat Bichari, Gayan Bongsor Bongswawali Ou  Okhas Prakaran (A brief description),  Saru Saru Manuhbur and Kabita aru Sur.

 He also held the post of president of Gaurisagar Sakha Xahitya Xabha  and organized for the promotion of the literary organization.  He was also a lyrist. Soon Bori  Gaonwe mate,  his first audio cassette  released  in 1998  and was  one of the best collections of Assamese folk songs. Due to contribution in the field of business as well as in social life, he was conferred   the lifelong  achievement award by Sanskritic Mahasabha, Asom in 2012 in Jorhat.

His demise has cast a pall of gloom in Gaurisagar and its adjacent areas. The Chambers of Commerce, Gaurisagar on Saturday shut down business establishments in the morning in honour of Baloram Bora. He is survived by his wife, a brother, a married daughter and a host of relatives.
