Genuine citizens being harassed in the name of NRC, says Tamulpur district unit of ABMSU

A CORRESPONDENT

GORESWAR: The Tamulpur district unit of ABMSU has strongly alleged that certain organizations had made false objections against many people from the religious minority communities whose names had been included in the draft National Register of Citizens (NRC), with the sole motive of harassing mentally the poverty-stricken genuine citizens.

In a press release issued by the Tamulpur district unit of ABMSU, it was stated that religious minority people were being harassed in the name of NRC which was quite unfortunate and uncalled for. Some people were trying to obstruct the ongoing NRC process by filling false objections. In Tamulpur too, they had made baseless objections against retired servicemen and eminent persons of the society. The people who made the objections against the genuine citizens were not present in the NRC centre for the hearing, the press release stated.

The ABMSU wanted to know the stand of AASU in this regard and urged the AASU to prove with records if names of foreigners had been included in the final draft of NRC.

The student organization also submitted a memorandum to the Baksa district DRCR, higher authority of NRC in this regard.
