Gill’s unbeaten ton helps India U-19 beat England

Mumbai, Feb 3: India Under-19 cricket team extended their lead in the five-match One-day Intertiol series to 2-1 after thrashing England by seven wickets at the Brabourne Stadium here on Friday. Chasing a modest 216, the hosts rode on opener Shubman Gill's brilliant undefeated 138 to take the match with more than five overs to spare.

Earlier, electing to bat after winning the toss, England started off poorly before Delray Rawlins (96) and George Bartlett (55) rescued the visitors with a 84-run third-wicket stand.

But once Bartlett was dismissed, England failed to carry on the momentum and fell prey to 17-year-old leg-spinner Rahul Chahar, who returned with figures of 4/33. Chahar was well-assisted by left-arm spinner Anukul Roy, who chipped in with 3/39. On the other hand, India started well with Gill and captain Himanshu Ra (19) putting on 63 runs before losing three quick wickets.

Brief Scores: England U-19: 215 (Delray Rawlins 96, George Bartlett 55, Rahul Chahar 4/33, Anukul Roy 3/39) lose to India U-19: 216/3 (Shubman Gill 138 not out, Harvik Desai 37 not out, Delray Rawlins 2/30) by 7 wickets. IANS
