GNLA rebel killed in encounter

Shillong, Feb 4: A dreaded GNLA militant was killed in an encounter with the Police late on Monday night. Acting on a tip off about the presence of six to seven GNLA militants in and around Santogre village, South West Garo Hills, the SWAT police team cordoned the area where the militants are said to have been camping. This led to an encounter where one militant identified as Reading M Sangma was killed, informed Inspector General of Police GHP Raju. One 7.65mm pistol, one 7.65mm magazine, two live rounds of 7.65mm pistol, two empty cases of 7.65mm pistol, seven empty cases of 7.62 pistol, AK ammunitions and GNLA ID card of Reading M Sangma and others were recovered from the spot. Unconfirmed reports indicated that another senior GNLA cadre Adil was also seriously injured.
