Gold seized from Guwahati and Silchar airports

STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, July 15: Nearly two kilogram of gold was recovered from three different flight passengers at airports in Guwahati and Silchar on Sunday during the routine check-up by CISF and customs officials.

The first gold seizure took place at Kumbhigram airport at Silchar in Cachar district when 1.6 kg of gold was recovered from Barkat Khan and Rajendra Sribat on Sunday morning. The gold was hidden in the rectum of the two persons as they were attempting to smuggle the gold to New Delhi. Both Khan and Sribat hail from Rajasthan.

The second incident took place at Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International airport at Borjhar in Guwahati when the CISF officials recovered one cylindrical shaped gold bar weighing approximately 400 gm from the rectum of a person identified as D Nadigiri. The accused was trying to smuggle the gold to Mumbai. Even though Nadigiri initially refused to confess his crime, constant persuasion and interrogation by CISF officials forced Nadigiri to confess his guilt.
