SHILLONG, April 3: Good Friday was observed with solemnity by the Christian faithful in Shillong today. Special services were held throughout the day in the various churches to remember Christ death on the cross. During the services, sermons were given from the altar, where the faithful were reminded of Christ teachings for compassion, love and forgiveness. The sermons gave in the different churches thrust on the significance of Christ teachings in the present world that is plague by violence, hatred, hunger and poverty. Enliven the Christians (according to the Bible) about the death of Christ and his redemption to save the world from the worldly sins, the urged was made on the people to follow his teachings. Being a solemn occasion, most of the faithful were seen attired in black and dark dresses during their visit to their respective churches located in and around the city On Saturday, the churches in the city will have midnight vigil and special services to await the Easter celebrations, a day when Christ is said to have resurrected from the tomb. Solemn observation of Good Friday also came from other parts of the state.
