Shillong, March 30: Along with the Christian community across the world, Shillong too observed Good Friday that holds special significance for the community as it commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
Young and old thronged the churches of different denomitions across the city. Churches resounded with the hymns, which reminded the faithful of the sacrifice that the Son of God Christ made to save the mankind.
Good Friday is a religious Christian holiday observed during the Holy Week as part of the Paschal Triduum on the Friday preceding Easter Sunday, and may coincide with the Jewish observance of Passover. It is also known as Holy Friday, Great Friday, Black Friday or Easter Friday, though the latter properly refers to the Friday in Easter week.
Church leaders also proclaimed the love that God has for its people and how he sacrificed his only Son for the world’s salvation and in all the churches the main theme of sermons was how the world needs to get back to its belief in Christ and his love for the people and to shy away from the worldly temptation which will lead to nothing but destruction of mankind.
