Goons of unauthorized bus stand attack businessman in Nagaon

NAGAON: Sensation prevailed in Nagaon town after a gang of an illegal bus stand allegedly manhandled a reputed businessman and his manager even in front of police in Hoiborgaon Sonimandir road in Nagaon. According to sources, in the random attack by the gang, the president of Lions Club Nagaon Greater and businessman Sunil Goenka and his manager sustained serious injuries. Following the incident, hundreds of businessmen staged protest against the illegal bus stand. The protesters demanded that the stand should be dismantled immediately as it was creating traffic congestion in the town.

Meanwhile, ASP Ripul Das and police and paramilitary forces rushed to the spot and tried to bring the situation under control. Injured businessman Sunil Goenka lodged an FIR against his attackers and the owner of the unauthorized bus stand, Manik Hussain in Hoiborgaon TOP. But police, instead of taking legal action against the attackers or the owner of the bus stand, allegedly tried to convince Goenka and others that the stand was not illegal and had legal documents.

Sunil Goenka told this correspondent that he informed local MLA Rupak Sarma about the incident as well as the role of ASP Das. Sarma directed Nagaon Police to take necessary action but the police allegedly did not do so. Hence Goenka approached the Deputy Commissioner of Nagaon and submitted a memorandum to him. Goenka added that if the DC did not take any steps against the illegal bus stand, the businessmen of Hoiborgaon bazaar would be demoralized. He said that due to the role of ASP Das businessmen were feeling insecure inside their business establishemnts. He stated further that the business community this time would approach Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and submit another memorandum against the illegal bus stand as well as the role of ASP Das.

On the other hand, some other businessmen of Hoiborgaon bazaar also alleged that it was surprising how a person was running an unauthorized bus stand on roadside of a busy road just in front of a police outpost. They said that they had repeatedly informed the local Hoiborgaon Police about the traffic jams caused due to the bus stand and the anti-social activities that go on in and around the bus stand like sale of drugs and alcohol and prostitution. But the police allegedly paid no attention to the appeals of the businessmen, rather Nagaon Police repeatedly tried to convince the businessmen that the bus stand was an authorized one.
