Youth students' body set up Modi market in Jorhat to protest price hike

Jorhat, May 6: The Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad on Friday alleged that due to the unholy nexus between governments and the unscrupulous traders the skyrocketing price rise of essential commodities have not been checked in the state. They have also staged a massive protest programme in front of Jorhat Deputy Commissioner’s office demanding immediate steps to control the prices of essential items. 

About 100 activists of the organization have set up a symbolic market titled- “Modi Market” in front of the DC’s office for two hours from 10 am on Friday in protest against government iction into the matter. They sold some essential commodities like rice, dal, potato and Tomato in the market in high prices and condemned the government apathy on it.

 AJYCP organizing secretary Siva Kalita said, “Today we have set up a symbolic market here to draw the attention to the rendra Modi led central government and Tarun Gogoi led state government on the matter. They have maintained an unholy nexus with the unscrupulous traders for which they remained silent on the matter. In spite of repeated demands from various quarters the governments have failed to control the prices causing serious hardship to the people of the state. We have strongly condemned this government failure and demanded to take steps at the earliest.”

He added, “The BJP leaders assured us to control the price rise of essential commodities in the country before the loksabha polls. But after they came to the power they failed to keep their promises made to the people of the country due to reasons best known to them. We condemned these failures and demanded to take steps to keep their promises immediately.”
