Government mulling to set up university at Haflong : Borkotoky

HAFLONG, April 30:  State Education Minister Sarat Borkotoky on Wednesday said here that the State Government is mulling to set up a University at Haflong  in Dima Hasao district.

Addressing a meeting held on the occasion of the 64th Foundation Day of North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council at District Library Auditorium here, minister Borkotoky said, “The Government is committed for the development of the district in every sectors including  road and transport communication, water supply, irrigation and education. We are also planning to establish a University at Haflong.”

He also assured that the Government will take steps for the regularization of the jobs of contractual teachers of Haflong Govt. College.

Borokotoky, who persolly inspected the infrastructure of Haflong College, said that he would apprise the Chief Minister about the problems of the district for early solution.

NCHAC Chief Executive Member (CEM) Debojeet Thaosen, in his speech called upon the people of Dima Hasao to show reverence and to respect the Autonomous Council and to extend full co-operation so that the district could develop and prosper.

He also opined that the opposition party should react only at the interest of development of the district.

He also thanked the Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and his government for support to solve the problems of N.C. Hills Autonomous Council.

In the beginning NCHAC chairman  Ngamrothang Hmar welcomed the dignitaries to the programme.

A souvenir, published on the occasion of the foundation day celebration and a news magazine “Reflection” published by the Education department were also released in the programme.

Local youth Prab Langthasa, who won silver medal in the Mister Universe Contest at Taranto in Italy in 2014, was  felicitated with a certificate and Rs. one lakh. Baoringdao Bodo, under 14 Sub-Junior tiol football team captain and Rewati Chetri , who was among the 10 filists and adjudged Miss Popular & Miss Multi-Media Award at FBB Miss India 2015, were also  felicitated with a certificate and Rs. 50,000 each.

The programme was also attended by NCHAC Deputy Chairman, Executive Members, MACs, Principal Secretaries, Deputy Commissioner, Brigadier of 22 Sector AR and departmental heads.
