Government needs support of neutral MLAs: Agatha

SHILLONG, April 22: The spokesperson of the National People’s Party (NPP) and chief whip of the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) Government Agatha Sangma said that to achieve a stable and strong government there is a need to gain the support of those MLAs who are not with the ruling government nor with the opposition.

Speaking to The Sentinel recently, Sangma said, “If they come and join the ruling MDA Government it will be a great benefit for the State and we would welcome them with open arms.”

She said the government will welcome both the MLAs from Mawphlang and North Shillong constituency who at present are not with the MDA nor  with the opposition.

“We would welcome Adelbert Nongrum and SK Sunn if they are ready to join the ruling MDA Government because we need active members as they have also shown in the just concluded Assembly session,” Agatha Sangma said.

She said both the MLAs who have decided not to be with the ruling government or with the opposition have actively been participating in the session by posing a number of questions on the style of functioning of the government and raised various issues.

However, Sangma said the decision to join and support the MDA Government lies solely on the two MLAs and no one can force them to join the ruling government.
