Government Schools Proved No Match For Private Ones

GUWAHATI: At a time when the whole state is abuzz with the marvelous results of HSLC examinations declared on May 15, 2019 and rank holders are hailed for their exceptional performance, a certain section of Guwahati-based government schools have failed to stand up to the scale set by the students of private schools. Call it a lack of proper infrastructure or the modest background of the families, the government schools still remain a far cry from stationing at par with the private institutes who pride themselves of almost zero fail percentage each time. The government boasts of free amenities that are supposed to ease the lives of the students of the government school but still has a long way to go when it come to paralleling the outcome.

69 students appeared in the HSLC examination this year from Guwahati Refinery High School, where 68 students passed and 1 failed bringing the pass percentage to 98.55 percent. 28 students appeared from Pan Bazaar Higher Secondary School, where 25 students passed and 3 failed bringing the pass percentage to 89.2 percent. 20 students appeared from New Guwahati Railway Colony High School, where 13 students passed and 7 failed bringing the pass percentage to 65 percent. 70 students appeared from Kahilipara High School, where 61 students passed and 9 failed bringing the pass percentage to 87.14 percent. 47 students appeared from Dakhin Guwahati High School, where 19 students passed and 28 failed bringing the pass percentage to 40.40 percent. 14 students appeared from Borsojai High School, where 4 students passed and 10 failed bringing the pass percentage to 28 percent.

65 students appeared from Vidya Mandir Higher Secondary School, where 25 students passed and 40 failed bringing the pass percentage to 38.46 percent. 32 students appeared from Pub Guwahati Night High School, where 25 students passed and 7 failed bringing the pass percentage to 78 percent. 31 students appeared from Tetelia High School, where 19 students passed and 12 failed bringing the pass percentage to 61.29 percent.

31 students appeared from Sri Aurobindo Vidya Mandira High School, where 16 students passed and 15 failed bringing the pass percentage to 51.61 percent. 3 students appeared from Guwahati Blind High School, where all three students passed bringing the pass percentage to a 100 percent. 48 students appeared from Dispur Government Higher Secondary School, where 34 students passed and 14 failed bringing the pass percentage to 70.83 percent. It is to be noted that Assam Education Minister, Siddhartha Bhattacharya, has expressed dissatisfaction over the “poor performance” of the government school results and stated that the situation will be modified after proper investigation on the factors behind the unfortunate performances are evaluated.
