Government should ensure development of Gorkha community: AAGSU

GOLAGHAT (Dhekial), Feb 2: The biennial convention of Golaghat District Gorkha Sanmilan was held at Rongagorah in the premises of Julunga Bheti Primary School recently with a two-day long programme.

In the two-day long programme, various literacy competitions were held. On the second day of the programme an open session was held under the president ship of Benu Upadyay and welcome address was delivered by Bokakhat Committee founder secretary Padma Keshore Chetry.

Attending as special guest of the programme, All Assam Gorkha Students’ Union general secretary Sobhitman Bista said, “The Gorkha people are spread from Sadia to Dhubri.  The Gorkha people are backward compared to other communities of Assam. For the all-round development of Assam, the government should provide equal rights and ensure development of the Gorkha community.”

In the programme, central vice president of Asom Gorkha Sanmilan, Noren Dehal, Bokakhat committee adviser rapati Upadyay, Bhupati Upadyay, Kalidas Upadyay, Keshab Chandra Upadyay and local media correspondent Amulya Dutta, Bin Phukan, Paban Kaman were present. In the representative meeting, a new body of Bokakhat Gorkha Sanmilan was formed for three years with Raju Bahadur Chetri as president, Bishnu Upadyay as working president and Goutam Dehal as general secretary.
