Government to strengthen Elite SF-10

Shillong, Feb 4: Elite Special Force-10 (SF-10) of the Meghalaya Police is set to undergo three-month intensive commando training in the third week of this month.  

Brigadier (Rtd) William R Sturgeon, Director appointed for the three months training programme told The Sentinel that the training modules will equip the personnel to combat dreaded insurgents in the state like GNLA C-in-C Sohan D Shira.  

In fact, after the completion of the 10 month-basic course, the 400 odd recruits of the State SF-10 are supposed to be dispatched to one of the elite Central commando training school in the country.

But the Government decided to impart training to this recruits locally and formed a team headed by the retired Army officer who once headed the Counter Insurgency Junggle Warfare (CIJW) School, Vairengte, Mizoram and the Assam Rifles Counter Insurgency Training Centre in Dimapur, galand.

He was a man with years of experienced in commanding counter insurgency operations in the Northeastern region and Jammu and Kashmir.

Speaking to The Sentinel on Thursday, Brigadaier Sturgeon said, “Yes, we are doing the spade work to start the commando training that will make the boys competent enough to fight militants”.

Making it clear that it is not just another Commando training, Sturgeon said that the SF-10 recruits will have to go well beyond the conventiol training centers during the three months period.

45 special instructors will be the part of the special training team of the 439 recruits.

It may be mentioned that there were 1200 vacancies and only the 400 odd were shortlisted for the SF-10 force.

Commandant of SF-10 JFK Marak said that the development of the infrastructural aspect is on.

It is learnt that the SF-10 recruits are already on the field to aid the East Khasi Hills district for the South Asian Games to be started from tomorrow.
