Government’s Initiative To Set Up Academic Institutions Will Boost Development

Nalbari: Adding a major boost to healthcare delivery services in north bank districts, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal launched construction works of Nalbari Medical College & Hospital at Borigaon in Nalbari district on Sunday. This 500 bedded medical college to be constructed with a financial outlay of Rs. 398.31 crore will provide academic opportunities for 100 students per year. On this occasion, Chief Minister Sonowal also ceremonially launched an expansion and widening works of 20km Ghograpar-Damodar Dham-Bijulighat connecting road with a budgetary allocation of Rs. 80 crore.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal underlined the priorities of the state and central governments in unleashing a new era of development in every part of the country and said that laying of foundation stone of the Medical College at Nalbari is a testimony of their commitment. Sonowal also came down heavily against the previous Congress governments which during the last seven decades neglected the development of the State and failed to tap the inherent potential. He said that the BJP led state and central governments have been working to expand academic infrastructure in the field of Medical Science, Engineering etc. and a result of this construction of Medical Colleges at Nalbari, Kokrajhar, Lakhimpur, Dhuburi have begun apart from AIIMS at Amingaon.

Stating that the State government through its announcement of State Capital Region and industrial corridor from Amingaon to Tihu has taken pragmatic steps for giving a new impetus to development in and around Nalbari, he pointed out that the Act East Policy enunciated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other infrastructure strengthening works has given a new confidence to the North Eastern states to march ahead with pride. He said that the present state government with a view to develop better business environment and giving new opportunity to the youth organized “Advantage Assam- Global Investors Summit” and also has opened an innovation hub titled “Startup-The Nest”. He also remarked that due to the farmer friendly initiatives of the State government, export of agricultural products from Assam to England and Dubai as well as medicinal product from Palashbari to United States have become possible. He also asserted the fact of that the transparent administration that the state government has ensured paved ways for recruitment meritorious students in APSC and other government departments.

Sonowal criticized the Congress government for neglecting development in the region and also the interest of the local people. He said that the previous Congress governments imposed IMDT Act in the State to protect the illegal migrants and also made no significant contribution in NRC update works. He said that the NRC update process received a major shot in the arm with the NDA government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi coming to power and the entire process has been moving ahead satisfactorily. He moreover observed that after final publication of the NRC, people of state would get a clear picture about the genuine citizens and illegal migrants.

Minister of Health and Family Welfare Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma terming the day historic said that the state government has already sanctioned an amount of Rs. 350 crore for construction of Nalbari Medical College which would give a new dimension to healthcare delivery service in the district. He also informed a 100 bedded Cancer Hospital with an expenditure of Rs. 19 crore would also be setup in the same campus. Stating that construction of the medical college would be completed in three years, the Health Minister observed that with the establishment of proposed Engineering College at Ghograpar the entire area would emerge as the nerve centre of academic and economic activities. The meeting was also addressed by Industry and Commerce Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary, Mangaldoi MP Ramen Deka and MLA Nalbari Ashok Sarma.
