Governor releases book on Koch dysty and Kamatapur kingdom

MANGALDAI, January 9: “Maharaj ra rayan and his brother Mahaveer Chilarai- one of the great generals of the country - are not only known for their exemplary courage, valour and patriotism, but also for patronizing the Vaishv saint Mahapurush Srimanta Shankardev who gave proper shape to the Assamese culture through his unique writings and creative cultural formation. The Koch dysty has made an immense contribution to the great Assamese tion. Jourlist-cum-writer Dwipendra rayan Konwar of Mangaldai deserves high appreciation for writing a book Koch- Kamatar Itihaas with detailed information about this royal dysty and the erstwhile Kamatapur kingdom. I hope that this book will be of great help to the students and the researchers of the State in particular, besides the common readers” said Assam Governor Banwarilal Purohit while ceremonially releasing the book this on Monday morning at an august function held at Raj Bhavan.

“I can feel the pain and the hard work with thorough research on this vast topic to complete the book in a period of seven long years. It is the need of the time that this book should be given wide publicity and reviews in newspapers and magazines so that the readers can earn more knowledge and information on the great warriors and worthy sons of the Koch dysty,” he added.  The Governor also appreciated the initiative of the publisher Nitul Neog of Assam Book Trust for publishing the book.

  Media persons  Manoj Kumar th, Mayukh Goswami, Hitesh Hazarika, Tridip Sarma, Mash Rai Medhi and woman activist Subhalakhsmi Kataki also attended the function in presence of Secretary to the Governor, Gakul Mohan Hazarika and PRO Lucky Biswas while media person Bhargab Kumar Das anchored the programme and apprised the Governor about the biography of writer Dwipendra rayan Konwar.

The book Koch- Kamatar Itihaas contains 328 pages which detailed information on the Koch kingdom and Kamatapur with some rare photographs. Writer Dwipendra rayan Konwar, who got involved with jourlism since 1982, is also actively involved with Axam Xahitya Xabha and other social works. He is the founder president of Mangaldai Media Circle- an organization of media persons based in Mangaldai. He has also authored several other books on different topics.
