Governor releases commemorative stamp

SHILLONG, June 3: Meghalaya Governor V Shangmugathan today released a special cover and stamp brought out to commemorate the 65th North Eastern Council (NEC) plery session at a function in Raj Bhawan here.

Speaking at the function, the Governor observed that the state of Meghalaya has done really well in football and the same kind of success can be emulated in the field of racing. He also threw an open challenge to the youths of the State to complete a 100-metre run in less than 10 seconds. Citing an example from the last Asian Games, he said, “One person maged to complete the 100 metre race in 9.5 seconds and the government has expressed an interest to provide training to those youths who are serious for competing the task of running 100 metres in less than 10 seconds.” During the function, the Governor also handed over the cheques to the winners of the “North East leads the Way” run which was organised on the occasion of the 65th NEC plery session. DonER Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh had also participated in the event.
