Governor returns list of KHACD members list

SHILLONG, Dec 29: The wait for the nomited member to the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) is set to be prolonged with Governor, V Shanmugathan returning the mes recommended by the state government and the district council. According to sources the mes of J Reenborn and Irin Lyngdoh, were referred back to the state government by the Governor. Shanmugathan wants to seek the opinion of the State Cabinet on the issue before clearing one of the mes as nomited MDC of the KHADC.

The Governor seems not to be able to take any decision on the issue with both the state government and the KHADC at loggerheads over which institution has the authority to recommend a nomited member.

After KHADC on December 14 recommended the me of Reenborn to the Governor for his nod, the state government has recommended the me of former MDC Irene Lyngdoh to the post. Irene’s me got the government’s seal of approval due to the ongoing tussle between the Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma and the KHADC CEM Pynshngainlang N Syiem over the dual-post issue.

Reenborn recommended by the KHADC as its nomited member is a retired judge while Lyngdoh is whose me was recommended by the government is a former MDC. Moreover, the me of Conrad K Sangma who was recommended by the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) as their nomited member is also yet to be cleared.
