Governor Shanmugathan opens Professors' Colony road

SHILLONG, Jun 18: Fulfilling the long-felt needs of the residents of Professors’ Colony, Kharmalki in Shillong, a road was today iugurated by Governor V Shanmugathan in the presence of Urban Affairs minister Ampareen Lyngdoh and the top officials besides local people.

The 180-metre -ong CC Road was constructed at a cost of Rs 84 lakh. The construction of the road was jointly undertaken by the PWD Department, Urban Affairs department and others.

Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said that road connectivity, in addition to power and water, is another area that the government must put its thrust on. Shanmugathan emphasized on the importance of road connectivity for all round development and said that the headquarters of each of the Northeastern states must be effectively connected with the rest of the country to boost tourism in the region.

Meanwhile, Ampareen thanked the residents of the locality for doting land required for the project. She said that the project is a gift to the future generations given the fact that the stretch was once a mere footpath with no proper draige system.
