A Correspondent

Haflong, April 10: Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi will be on his maiden visit to Dima Hasao for two days, April 11 and April 12, and the conscious citizens of Haflong have termed the visit of the Governor as a boon for the people as it has prompted several departments to give the town a facelift. The roads of the headquarter of Dima Hasao was in a dilapidated condition since long, but the proposed visit of VVIPs prompted the Public Works Department to repair the roads and take steps for beautification of Haflong. Several men with machineries were seen repairing the road and painting the roadside railing and cleaning the side walls of the roads day and night, perhaps to please the VVIPs. The people are of the opinion that visits by VVIPs or VIPs from the Centre or the State should be more frequent so that departments are encouraged to take up development activities in the district.

They were suffering a lot due to lack of good roads since long. However, the visit of the Governor has compelled the authority concerned to at least repair the roads of Haflong, though temporarily. On Wednesday, after arriving, the Governor will hold meeting with security agencies followed by meeting with heads of departments, including the Principal Secretary of the NC Hills Autonomous Council, wherein the Governor would be briefed about the Central Government schemes being implemented in the district. He will hold meetings with different religious, social, sports and literary organizations, student associations, political parties and elected members (excluding council members). He will also visit the NC Hills Autonomous Council office and hold meeting with the members of the council. This will be followed by visit to Zion village, the second cleanest village in Assam.

On Thursday, the Governor will visit schools, colleges, hospitals and offices to see the cleanliness as a part of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and visit ongoing or recently completed developmental projects in and around Haflong. He will also lay the foundation stone of the N L Daulagapu sports stadium, subject to issue of work order, followed by a meeting with media persons of the district at Circuit House, Haflong.
