Silchar, April 30: Grahak Suraksha Samiti today cautioned the people not to fall into the trap of ‘unscrupulous elements’ regarding the process of NRC update.

Biplob Kumar Goswami, general secretary, Grahak Suraksha Samiti (GSS), told The Sentinel today about the harassment and troubles faced by the people of rural areas in the district regarding NRC update at the hands of the appointed officials at help centres. Goswami also said that the desigted officials of NRC help centres are giving arbitrary explations regarding the procedures to the common people which is creating confusion among the masses. He further said that there have been reports of unscrupulous persons acting as brokers in the centres promising the masses of giving correct legacy data in return of money.

The general secretary requested the people to stay away from such brokers and not to lose their patience regarding the detailed NRC update. The people have been requested to collect any of the 16 admissible documents for the purpose, and if they have any important documents, other than the 16 prescribed admissible documents, they should keep it aside and may produce it, if required in future. The Samiti has requested the district administration to make sure that proper modalities regarding the NRC update are followed in all the help centres in the district.
