Gunpowder seized in Tirap

Itagar, April 9: Personnel of the 36 Bn CRPF based at Khonsa in Tirap district on Tuesday seized 4.5 kgs of gunpowder from a Tata Sumo vehicle - and the seizure led to the discovery of more gunpowder from Kheti village near here.

The seizure was made around 1 a.m. during a routine ka near the Shiva temple on the Khonsa-Tissa road. The gunpowder was found when the personnel stopped the vehicle - which was being driven by one Laitoh Wangsa, a tive of Pongchau village in Longding district - and checked it, an official communiqué informed. Wangsa was on his way to Pongchau from Khonsa. On spot interrogation, he revealed that the gunpowder had been taken from one Khumlom Wangw of Kheti village (Tirap) and was meant to be delivered to the chief of Pongchau village, Mewang Wangham.

Based on the revelation, a CRPF team searched Wangw’s house in Kheti. The team recovered a further 4 kgs of gunpowder from the house.

Both Wangsa and Wangw, along with the seized gunpowder, were later handed over to the police station here on the same evening, the communiqué added.
