Guwahati Grenade Blast Incident Sparks Political Debate

GUWAHATI: The grenade blast that took place at 8pm on Wednesday near Guwahati Central, Zoo Road, has sparked various debates among the opposition parties. Questioning the law and order situation of the government, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) Spokesperson Apurba Kumar Bhattcharjee criticized the inability of the police administration of preventing the blast.

Addressing a press communiqué on Thursday, Bhattcharjee strongly condemned the bombing and the union associated with the crime. He sardonically commented that moments after the Chief Minister commenced his meeting reviewing the security of the state, the attack occurred.

“Sonowal government should pay attention to the law and order provision of the state to shield the life and property of the citizens. The Home Department has diminished the will power, swiftness and performance of the police department that was at its peak during the Congress regime. Infact, various extremists organizations surrendered during the Congress party tenure and returned to the mainstream”, said Bhattcharjee. “The media is constantly broadcasting about the rampant syndicates running in the state, where the involvement of various BJP leaders has been suspected. Where is the CM adage of ‘zero tolerance’ when he turns a blind eye towards such allegations?” he questioned.

Meanwhile, the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) has also severely criticized the blast and slamming the BJP, said that the government should have made better security provisions at par with the promise they made to the public. AIUDF General Secretary Aminul Islam said that the injured be provided monetary relief by the government.

The BJP while condemning the bombing prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured and later slammed the Congress party for sparking a political fire in lieu of the sensitive issue. BJP State President Ranjit Kumar Dass said, “The Congress party is trying to make a political gain out of the unfortunate bombing incident. This is the time to lend a helping hand to the victims rather than indulging in mudslinging. The CM has already ordered an arrest of the people involved in the crime.”
