Guwahati Grenade Blast: Prime Accused Bijay Asom Falls In Police Net At Dangori

GUWAHATI/DIGBOI: Bijay Asom did give police the slip after the May 15 grenade attack on security personnel in the city, but the latter hasn’t let him go scot-free.

Bijay, the prime accused in the grenade attack in Guwahati, was arrested by the police at Dangori under Talap outpost in Doomdooma police station, Tinsukia at 5 pm on Tuesday. He, according to Guwahati Police Commissioner Deepak Kumar, was on transit to Guwahati while filing of this report.

The investigators are of the firm view that it was Bijay Asom who actually lobbed the grenade at the security personnel near Guwahati Central Mall on RG Baruah Road in the city.

According to police sources, their personnel were hot on Bijay Asom’s trail who kept on changing his locations every now and then. The police team was led by Tinsukia headquarters DSP Bitul Chetia.

Bijoy Asom, according to the police, had made a recce with Pranamoy Rajguru and actress Jahnabi Saikia to launch a grenade attack in Guwahati. He was staying at the rented house of Jahnabi Saikia at Panjabari in the city and fled just before the police raiding the house.

With Bijay Asom’s arrest, six persons have so far been arrested in connection with the grenade attack. The other five are Jahnabi Saikia, Pranamoy Rajguru, Chinmoy Lahakar, Indra Mohan Bora and Amit Ballav Goswami.
