Guwahati school adopts tribal village on city outskirts

Guwahati, May 10: As part of their social responsibility programme, NPS Intertiol School, Guwahati has adopted Bakarapara village under Rani Development Block as Model Village under the long term development programme med “NPS Intertiol School & Bakarapara Village, A Socio-economic Development Initiative”.
As part of this initiative, the magement of the school distributed various items— books, clothes, shoes, items relating to the health and hygiene of the villagers etc., during a programme organized in school premises on Saturday.
“This is not the first time. The representatives of the magement of the school are visiting the village frequently and distributing various materials not only among the school children but also among the entire villagers,” said one Ila Kachari, an elderly woman of the village.
Expressing satisfaction over the contribution of NPS Intertiol School for overall development of the village, Kachari said that the magement of the school has also taken various initiatives in the village for providing drinking water facilities, cleanliness, maintaining health and hygiene-related issues etc. “For protection of environment, creating awareness among various tribal culture and heritage, for waste magement and overall improvement of the education scerio of the village, the magement of NPS Intertiol School is doing lots of things in last two years,” Kachari said, adding, “Earlier the villagers and domestic animals used to share the same pond for drinking water. Now, the situation has been completely changed due to the initiatives taken by NPS Intertiol School”.
Thanking NPS for their overall contribution in socio-economic development of the village, the headmaster of Bakarapara LP School, Phisenjit Swargiary, said that the students and teachers of the school are continuously providing various materials, mely chairs, books, clothes, shoes etc., among students of the school. This is a very good initiative on the part of the magement of NPS Intertiol School, Guwahati. Other schools of the state should also come forward to adopt villages then only we can see a developed India soon, Phisenjit Swargiary said. NPS Intertiol School adopted the tribal domited village in the year 2014. Over the years, the authorities in school are trying to make this village one of the leading model villages of the state. Apart from other activities, the school magement is also organizing various medal camps for the welfare of the villagers.
“We are also trying our level best to convert this tribal village a leading Model village. For the welfare of the villagers, especially the youths we are planning to provide proper training and adequate support to earn their livelihood. Trainings on poultry, farming, handloom etc., will be given so that the youths can earn their livelihood properly. We are also trying to create awareness on adult education. To make this area a plastic-free zone, we are also providing jute and paper bags among the villagers,” said JN Das, chairman of the school.
For the benefit of the villagers, especially the young ones, the school authorities are organizing traditiol cultural programmes and distributing prizes among them. “We are trying to protect the cultural heritage of the villagers of Bakarapara. We are organizing various traditiol cultural programmes among the villagers so that their next generation gets attracted towards the traditiol dances, folk songs, etc,” he added.
