Haflong,  Sept 24: The Principal of Haflong Government College, after a prolonged discussion with students and also the election committee, has cancelled the recently held election to the Haflong Government College students’ body following strong opposition from a section of the students’ community on Saturday. A section of Haflong Government College students opposed the election which was held on September 22, alleging faulty procedure. The college authority and also the agitating students had approached the district administration for suggestion. The district administration had suggested solving the matter in the college itself since it was a matter of college administration. The students then approached the Principal to solve the matter immediately. Since the students were kept waiting for hours, some of the students went out of control and the situation was about to turn violent. With the intervention of senior students and teachers, the Principal took the decision to cancel the election and allowed the earlier students’ body led by Tyson Hrangkhol to continue. Talking to media persons, Principal Dr Mijur Rahman said that as a section of students opposed the election. “We have cancelled the election and after the amendment of the constitution of election, the election will be held again. The exact date for the election cannot be declared since the college is going to organize a tiol-level semir on September 30,” he said.
